The Russell School

Facilities

The school is situated on a large plot of land providing extensive opportunities for outdoor learning.  We have a purpose built outdoor classroom hidden in the woodland at the back of the field which is used by the whole school, all year round. In addition to the playground, the outdoor facilities include a playing field, woodland trail, outdoor theatre, climbing frame, trim trail, gazebo, traversing wall and a group activity area.

Playtimes are structured and children can choose from a range of physical activities, including football, netball, table tennis and basketball, as well as a quiet area.  Children have a dedicated space to read, write and work on creative activities during break times.

The main hall provides an excellent space for whole school assemblies and PE lessons and is equipped with staging and lighting for performances.  A purpose built gym is also used to lead PE lessons and is well resourced with equipment.

Classrooms are equipped with Smart TVs and the Computing Suite is well resourced with thirty computers, one for each child in the class.

Children have access to a school library which is stocked with a wide range of children's literature and non-fiction texts.

The school is very fortunate to have a heated indoor swimming pool on site and employs a swimming teacher to lead swimming lessons with all classes (from Year 1 upwards) between March until October.

For those requiring 'wrap-around' care, the on-site JK Club offers both a Breakfast Club and an After School Club each day.  The breakfast club opens at 7.30am until the start of the school day.  The after school club runs from 3.15pm to 6pm.  Registration forms and further information can be obtained from the school office.    The buildings and grounds are available for hire (subject to availability) in the evenings, weekends or school holidays.  Please speak to the school office for further details.
